FAQ
Are my contributions to Community Alchemy
Tax Deductible?
Yes. The IRS has granted us 501(c)(3)
status, which makes contributions tax deductible. If you are donating
material goods, the fair market value is deductible. IRS information on
the specifics of tax deductions for donated goods can be found here -
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p561.pdf . Be sure to consult a
professional tax advisor if you have questions.
Do you accept donations of clothing?
Not at this time. Many great
organizations will accept your used clothing donations, including the
Salvation Army - http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/
What sort of donations do you accept?
Books, comic books, DVDs, CDs, video
games, games, and more. If you're not sure, please e-mail donations@communityalchemy.org
How is the money Community Alchemy raised
used?
We distribute the money we raise to
organizations that help with the causes and consequences of child
poverty. This would include food banks, shelters, education programs,
and more. Check back often as we'll have more details on the specific
organizations we'll be working with.
What makes Community Alchemy different
from other non-profit organizations?
Our goal is to find new ways to raise
money for our cause. Rather than ask for a cash donation, we'd like the
books you've already read, the movies you've already seen, and the music
you've gotten bored with. Our name refers to our desire to take "junk"
and turn it into a powerful resource for those in need.
Where are you based?
We operate primarily in Maryland,
Washington D.C, and Virginia. |
